Back Post Tips gives statistics and opinions, never guarantees. Every bet can lose. Gambling should be fun; when it stops being fun, stop.
Stay in control
- Only bet what you can afford to lose. Treat it as the cost of entertainment, never as income.
- Set a budget and a time limit before you start, and stick to them. Use your bookmaker's deposit limits.
- Never chase losses. Trying to win money back is how small losses become big ones.
- Don't bet when you're upset, stressed, or have been drinking.
- Take regular breaks, and keep gambling in balance with the rest of your life.
- No streak is a sure thing. Runs end, models are wrong, often, and losing runs happen.
Warning signs
It may be time to stop and talk to someone if you:
- spend more money or time gambling than you meant to;
- bet more to get the same excitement, or to win back losses;
- borrow money, miss bills or hide gambling from people close to you;
- feel anxious, guilty or irritable about gambling, or when you try to stop.
If any of these sound familiar, the services below can help, free and in confidence.
